At the gateway to Brittany, Maine, Anjou and Normandy, Vitré is situated along the extension of the autoroute de l’Ouest and close to the autoroute des Estuaires. Like in the rest of the Ille-et-Vilaine department, Vitré’s municipalities can be accessed via expressways. Vitré is the central town of an area that is home to around 90,000 people and stretches across seven cantons (Vitré-est, Vitré-ouest, Argentré-du-Plessis, Châteaubourg, la Guerche-de-Bretagne, Janzé and Retiers).
